Story about: Scott Zrna, Winemaker, McLaren Vale

"Life is good” according to Fox Creek’s Senior Winemaker Scott Zrna.
Making wine in McLaren Vale is a rewarding pastime but it’s the whole lifestyle of living near the beach, with access to fabulous Fleurieu restaurants and local produce which makes one ask, why would you want to be anywhere else?

When he’s not watching over maturation in the Barrel Hall with a valence and glass, there's bike trails, farmers markets, snorkeling and walking the dogs on the beach to keep him off the couch. There's always something to do on the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula, and at the heart of it, the McLaren Vale wine region is producing amazing wines.

Scott can also be found in his kitchen creating some culinary delights to (hopefully) match the wine selected. His need to ‘make stuff’ extends to his other favourite place – the Shed, where he occupies his spare time cutting larger pieces of timber into smaller pieces. Occasionally he creates something useful.

Established in 1995, Fox Creek Wines has been a major contributor to the growth of McLaren Vale's reputation, producing some of the best shiraz in Australia.

Visitors are always welcome at our cosy 19th century Cellar Door cottage, conveniently located 45 kilometres south of Adelaide, between the villages of McLaren Vale and Willunga on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Taste the award winning wines whilst enjoying the art and sculpture in and around the cottage. Feel free to picnic in the beautiful gardens amongst ancient eucalypt and olive trees with one of our cheese platters or book to go on a guided 'behind the scenes' winery tour at 10.20am on Monday or Friday.

In 2005, Fox Creek’s Reserve Shiraz received Excellent Classification as one of the top 101 wines in all varieties available in Australia by Langton's Auction House and since then it has been awarded Trophies for the Wine & Shiraz of the Year at the Hyatt/Advertiser Wine Awards in 2006 and the Best Australian Wine at the 2009 Japan Wine Challenge.

Our Red Baron Shiraz has also been soaring high winning Gold and Trophies, most recently a Trophy for Best Value Dry Red at the 2010 Sydney International Wine Competition.
